Pan Alliances Breast Group Systemic Anti-Cancer Services Best Practice & Innovation: ‘One Year On’ Friday 4th April 2025
De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms
61-65 Great Queen Street, London, WC2B 5DA
Introduction
In February 2024, we held our first Pan Alliances Breast Group face-to-face event, ‘Systemic Anti-Cancer Services Best Practice & Innovation: Sharing and Learning’. At the close of that meeting, there was a shared enthusiasm to regroup in a year’s time—reflecting on progress, reviewing the adoption of service improvements discussed, and assessing any resulting impact.
For those unfamiliar, the Pan Alliances Breast Cancer Group was established in September 2022, with an initial focus on raising awareness of the growing pressures facing breast oncology services and the toll on already-stretched clinical teams.
With support from Breast Cancer Now and representation from the majority of the (then) 21 Cancer Alliances, alongside the UK Breast Cancer Group and the Royal College of Radiologists, the group gained momentum. Together, we laid the foundation for our first in-person gathering—bringing together colleagues from across the country in 2024 to discuss challenges and share innovative approaches to breast cancer service delivery. True to our word, we reconvened on Friday, 4th April 2025.
Breast clinical leads, oncologists, SACT nurses, ACPs, pharmacists, and transformation leads from 19 of the (now) 20 Cancer Alliances joined together once again, committed to tackling the persistent challenges in breast oncology.
The pressure on breast oncology services remains significant. Workforce shortages, growing patient demand, and the increasing complexity of cancer treatments continue to contribute to a capacity crisis across the NHS. This is particularly acute in the delivery of systemic anticancer therapies (SACT).
