Tributes have been paid to Glenn Edge, OBE BSc RAF, a member of the East of England Cancer Alliances Patient Partnership Group, who died on Thursday 3rd November 2022.
Glenn had been involved in the patient group for a number of years, after having been given a lung cancer diagnosis.
Glenn was a passionate advocate for reporting early signs and symptoms of cancer, understanding that the earlier the diagnosis the better the chance of survival. Glenn provided a knowledgeable insight into patient experience of the cancer care pathway, with particular emphasis on his experience as a lung cancer patient.
He was involved in many projects and initiatives with the patient group, aimed at improving cancer care and patient experience in the East of England. Most recently he was involved in creating a video to highlight the importance of early diagnosis. The video looks at his patient journey but also at his life and career in the RAF, during which he was promoted to the rank of Air Commodore. Glenn continued flying and training pilots until his cancer treatment meant this had to finish, however he was able to spend more time managing and working on his farm and more importantly, spend time with his family.
Ray Anderson, co-chair of the Cancer Alliances Patient Partnership Group, said:
"Glenn has made a tremendous difference by improving the experience of cancer patients through his work within the Patient Partnership Group.
Glenn was always a positive voice promoting good practice which he had experienced in his cancer treatments. We worked together on access to primary care by cancer patients and, with the encouragement of GPs on the project, we made recommendations which feature prominently in the Alliances' Cancer Strategy.
Glenn will be sorely missed at PPG meetings and the members have expressed their sincere condolences to Carol and Glenn's family."
