Breast cancer support charity Bosom Pals (MK) has been announced as one of the delighted recipients of this year's Queen's Awards for Voluntary Service.

The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service (QAVS) is the highest honour given to volunteer groups in the UK and recognises exceptional work done by charities for people in their local communities. A total of 230 organisations across the UK were awarded The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service this year.

Milton Keynes charity Bosom Pals is a breast cancer support group run by patients - for patients. It was set up around thirty years ago by cancer patients and a cancer nurse and has provided support, kindness and reassurance at what is a very difficult time in people's lives. The charity has now expanded to include some women suffering from gynaecological cancers and men suffering from breast cancer.

Amanda Pleavin, Managing Director of the East of England Cancer Alliance South, said: "charities like Bosom Pals provide a very important support network for cancer patients and compliment the medical services provided by the NHS.

We cannot underestimate the help they provide and very much appreciate their hard work, which has been recognised in this instance by winning the Queen's Award."
