The East of England Cancer Alliance is thrilled to announce its shortlisting in the ‘Driving Change through Data and Analytics Award’ category at the HSJ Digital Awards 2025 – a recognition of its dedication to pioneering digital solutions that are shaping the future of healthcare across the UK.
This year marks a milestone for the HSJ Digital Awards with a record-breaking 432 entries submitted, of which, 205 projects have been shortlisted – each demonstrating remarkable ingenuity, passion, and transformative impact in digital health.
The HSJ Digital Awards shine a light on teams and organisations driving meaningful change through technology, improving patient outcomes, streamlining processes, and enhancing the overall quality of care. Being shortlisted is a testament to the East of England Cancer Alliance’s unwavering commitment to innovation and excellence in digital healthcare.
The East of England Cancer Alliance and the six integrated care boards (ICBs) in the region, covering a population of 6.5 million, undertook a collaborative data-driven ‘faster diagnosis of cancer project’ to reduce waiting times for NHS patients. Rapid cancer action teams of NHS subject matter experts undertook data analysis across the East of England to identify challenges and share good practice, helping to reduce variation.
The East of England met the Faster Diagnosis Standard and the rate of improvement now compared to before the project took place, was almost double that seen nationally. Work remains ongoing and the East of England Cancer Alliance, ICBs and NHS providers continue to be committed to improving cancer care pathways and reducing waiting times for patients.
Amanda Pleavin, East of England Cancer Alliance Managing Director said: “We are pleased to be shortlisted for this prestigious award. This recognition reflects the dedication of our team and their relentless pursuit of data and digital advancements that truly impact on patient care. In collaboration with NHS teams across the East of England, our project aimed to close the gap on cancer waiting times for the benefit of patients.”
Sarah Miller, East of England Cancer Alliance Head of Informatics and Project Lead, said: “At the East of England Cancer Alliance we work closely with our six integrated care systems and 14 acute providers using a data-driven approach to highlight variation and good practice that can be shared across NHS services. We continue to use the same model to help reduce the time to cancer diagnosis and treatment – a time that is often stressful and worrying for patients and their families.”
The winners will be revealed at the HSJ Digital Awards ceremony on 26 June 2025, a night dedicated to celebrating the brightest minds and most impactful projects in digital health.
